Marcia V. Wilkof, Ph.D.
Marcia V. Wilkof is a senior consultant at Strategic Management
Group, Inc. (SMG). An authority on corporate culture and planned
organizational change, her work focuses on women-friendly companies,
21st century management, strategic alliances, qualitative strategic
planning, organization design, project management, program evaluation,
process consultation, management training and executive role counseling.
Prior to joining SMG, Dr. Wilkof worked as a consultant and a professor.
She has over twenty years of experience in both the public and private
sectors developing and implementing focused change projects to improve
performance. Work has been done with top, middle and first line
management as well as front line employees. Clients have included
Digital Equipment Corporation, Shared Medical Systems, Princeton
Gamma-Tech, Quad Systems, U.S. Naval Air Systems Command, Apple
Computer, Pennsylvania Bureau of Youth Services, Savin Corporation,
Pennsylvania Bureau of Corrections, Pennsylvania Board of Probation
and Parole, National Institute of Corrections, Institute for Scientific
Information, Richland Memorial Hospital and the Leonard Davis Institute
for Health Economics.
Dr. Wilkof has held academic appointments at Penn State, Thomas
Jefferson, Temple and Rutgers universities, Philadelphia College
of Textiles & Science, and the Wharton School. Her research and
experience have been the subject of many articles and papers appearing
in such publications as The Journal of Quality and Participation,
R&D Management, The Journal of High Technology Management and Marketing
Research, Health Progress and The Journal of Applied Behavioral
Science. A frequent conference and seminar speaker, Dr. Wilkof has
addressed the "Managing the High Technology Firm" conference, the
international "State of the Art in R&D Management" conference, the
Association of Quality and Participation, and the Academy of Management.
Dr. Wilkof worked with Tom Peters on his book, Liberation Management,
documenting strategies and tactics used by successful organizations
to debureaucratize, improve production and delivery of quality products
and services, empower employees and emphasize customer service.
Special attention was given to how these organizations have radically
streamlined structures and systems, a necessary precondition for
increasing performance.
She served on Philadelphia Mayor Edward G. Rendell's Office of
Management and Productivity (OMP) Transition Team where she chaired
the subcommittee on Employee Involvement and served on the OMP Mission,
Responsibilities and Organization subcommittee.
Dr. Wilkof has an A.B. from the University of Cincinnati and an
M.S. and Ph.D. from the Wharton School. She is a member of the National
Academy of Management, is on the board of the Royal Theater Preservation
Association, and is listed in Who's Who of American Women.
