Project Leadership Objectives

After completing the Project Leadership Seminar, participants will be able to:

Define the concept of the core team and describe why it is essential to develop, sustain, and protect the core team to keep a project on time, on budget, and of high quality.
Develop a core team at the beginning of a project, keep the core team together throughout the life of the project, and protect it from managers outside the project team.
Recognize the conflicting goals of major project stakeholders and apply management techniques presented by the course to maximize stakeholder satisfaction at each stage over the life of the project.
Recognize leadership behaviors associated with project success and failure at each stage of a project, engage in the leadership behaviors and strategies that are linked with project success at that stage of the project, and avoid those which have been identified with project failure.
Assess the stage of development of the project team and practice the proper leadership behaviors appropriate to that stage of development.
Recognize the importance of authenticity, persistence and consistency in leadership behavior to motivate project team members to successfully lead a project, and demonstrate these characteristics in leading projects.
Recognize the project management process as the recommended guide to action when managing projects. Follow it in order to lead the project and use it as a mental model to learn from experience and continuously improve project leadership.
Maintain a high level of quality and customer focus throughout the project life cycle.
Apply project management tools and techniques including: PERT-CPM charts, Gantt charts, responsibility charting, work-breakdown structures, and activity charts.
