Best and Worst Practices

Best and Worst Practices
Project success is supported by best practices, things we have learned that successful project managers do when leading successful projects. These best practices obey the laws of project success. The worst practices lead to project failure.

Successful projects:

  • have a well defined goal
  • have a core team
  • have a project plan
  • include the client early and often
  • include all relevant stakeholders

Projects often fail because:

  • sufficient resources are not allocated to the project
  • sufficient time is not allocated to the project
  • project scope is not appropriately defined
  • upper management does not support the project
